Barbara Robbins and Bernie Michel – Bio
Barbara Robbins first saw a video about Sathya Sai Baba in 1974. She knew immediately that He was the full embodiment of divine love, which was her definition of God. At that time, there were very few devotees of Baba in the USA, so she had to wait another 22 years before contacting anyone else who knew of Him. In 1997, she and her husband, Bernie Michel, made their first trip to Puttaparthi, India, with fellow devotee, Jatin Desai. Barbara wanted to see for herself what the energy of Baba felt like, and was touched to the core of her heart in His presence. Since then, she has been an active member of the Sai Baba Center near her in Connecticut. She has taught SSE for 20 years, and was Education Coordinator for many years. She has also served as Sai Center Service Coordinator. Barbara practices seeing divinity in every person she meets, with the ultimate goal of remembering Baba at every moment until self-realization is achieved and maintained.
Bernie Michel was born into a Roman Catholic Family as the 2nd oldest of 8 children. All of his formal education was within the Catholic Church including 9 years of seminary training that included a BA in Philosophy. In his mid 30’s he moved away from Catholicism toward other spiritual practices until he discovered the I AM Activity and subsequently moved to Hartford, CT. It was there in that spiritual practice that he met and later married Barbara, and it was through her that he was introduced to Swami’s teachings and the Sai Organization where he has been an active member since 1996. Bernie currently serves as the President of SSSIO-USA Region 1.
